Plein Air Exhibition

Writer: Sue EnglandSue England

until 30 March in the Bakery, Cathedral Cloisters Cafe

I was lucky enough to be involved with organising an exhibition to celebrate three Plein Air painting sessions, held during the summer of 2024.

All 75 participants were invited to submit their work for inclusion in the exhibition and the results are on display in The Bakery, Cathedral Cloisters Cafe until 30 March, open during cafe opening hours but not on Tuesdays.

I think all participants were pleased to see their efforts, mounted, framed and hung. The paintings and drawings make for a very interesting display representing 3 delightful days in 3 beautiful gardens across West Sussex – The Bishops Palace Garden Chichester, Woolbeding Garden near Midhurst and Petworth Park.

All abilities joined in, including professional artists, but the emphasis was on encouraging people who maybe hadn’t done any art work for some time, or who might feel hesitant in going outside to paint on their own, to join in and be encouraged to exhibit their work. The variety is remarkable from landscape views to abstract interpretations, drawings and prints.

All work is for sale at very modest prices and I would urge you to go along and see the exhibition before it closes on 30 March.
